If you’ve ever been to a Twenty One Pilots concert, you already know drummer Josh Dun is the quiet powerhouse. The Columbus, Ohio native usually lets his sticks do the talking, driving the band’s pulse while frontman Tyler Joseph takes on vocals, piano, ukulele, bass, guitar, and pretty much anything else within reach.
But in the newly released video for the duo’s second single from their upcoming album Breach (out Sept. 12), “Drum Show,” Dun steps out of his comfort zone and sings for the very first time on a Twenty One Pilots track. The high-energy, punk-flavored anthem is led by Dun’s relentless drumming alongside Joseph’s sharp basslines and urgent delivery. It follows the success of the record’s first single, “The Contract,” which has climbed to No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay chart and earned a nomination for Best Rock at the 2025 MTV VMAs.
The stripped-down video, directed by longtime collaborator Mark Eshleman, was filmed in the band’s Midwest hometown. Joseph and Dun perform inside an abandoned parking garage, plugging their instruments into a minivan. At one point, Dun pounds away on his drum kit from the driver’s seat while Joseph belts out lyrics from the back as they cruise through the night.
“He’s puttin’ on a drum show/ Even now, even now, even now/ He’ll take the longer way home/ Even now, even now, even now/ He’ll never say so,” Joseph sings on the chorus. “He drives fast just to feel it, feel it/ He drives slow if his song’s not over/ Drown it out, drown it out.” Midway through the track, Dun delivers his first-ever vocal performance, a surprisingly tender moment as he sings, “I’ve been this way/ I want to change/ I’ve been this way/ I want to change,” before Joseph erupts with a raw scream of the word “change,” backed by a crashing storm of cymbals.
The band has also revealed plans to mark the release of Breach with a global listening event hosted at independent record shops around the world, just a week before the album drops. The project continues the narrative thread first introduced with 2015’s Blurryface and carried through Trench (2018), Scaled and Icy (2021), and last year’s Clancy. Twenty One Pilots will launch the Clancy Tour: Breach 2025 on September 18 with a massive show at Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium.
Alongside the single, the duo unveiled three limited-edition box sets inspired by central characters from the album’s storyline: the Dark Clancy edition, the Nova Bishop edition, and the Torchbearer edition. Each collectible box comes in a unique textured design with hidden details, featuring exclusive items like a bandana, stickers, a poster, a 24-page booklet, and a character ID card. Fans can check the band’s official site for full details on the special editions.
