CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA – The more transparent you are as a regular human being, the more people can relate to your lyrics and keep listening to you. That’s the approach Canadian-based rapper Versvs takes when it comes to his music. His latest single “Invisible” is a great example of his unique approach, and it serves as a great introduction to his signature style for anyone who hasn’t yet heard his music.
Originally from Italy, Versvs has settled in Canada after having lived in various countries over the years. He’s a multi-talented artist and individual who can speak four different languages fluently – Italian, French, Spanish and English. But his favorite form of communication is through music, and his natural talent is undeniable. Since his first album release in 2018, he’s had one great opportunity after another. He’s collaborated with well-known artists such as Royce Da 5”9’, Merkules, KXNG Crooked, King Los, and many more. He’s opened for Tyga and has performed for Sway In The Morning. Many of the videos he’s released on social media have millions of views, and he’s become well-known throughout the industry for remixing popular songs with unique flows and fresh lyrics that connect with fans all over the world.
“I’m someone who is always going to be brutally honest in my songs,” he said. “I’m never afraid to show my vulnerability and talk about any topic I face in life. A lot of people relate to that. I’m also an extremely technical emcee, which is an underrated thing nowadays. I know that rap has changed a lot over the last few years, and that’s why I’m trying to integrate multiple things. I do sometimes use modern Trap beats to appeal to a younger generation, but I’m always trying to keep it lyrical and be myself. I might experiment with different sounds and styles, but as long as I’m being true to myself and lyrical with my verses, then there’s no problem experimenting and trying different things on the hooks.”
When it comes to “Invisible,” Versvs takes his finely honed skills and weaves lyrics that tell his story of growing up and how music became a saving grace for him. He said during his teenage years he dealt with a lot of intense situations, and music was his main outlet. He started listening to Eminem, and then eventually other mainstream rappers, which set him on a path to explore more and more of hip-hop.
“It’s a song that talks about what music did for me, how I got into rap, and how things are going for me now,” he said. “It’s my life story in three verses. It’s also by far the best music video I’ve ever done. It tells the story in even deeper ways, and really illustrates how I felt invisible growing up and how I dealt with mental health issues because of how much I felt left out. The name of the song also has a double meaning that touches on the fact that not enough people are seeing me as an artist today and giving me recognition. Since I released my first single four years ago, I’ve dedicated myself more and more to this music and I’m trying to make it as a full-time musician. I’m excited for people to see that.”
