Nicki Minaj and her loved ones continue to cope with the loss of her father, Robert Maraj, who was married to Carol Maraj. Robert was fatally struck by driver Charles Polevich while crossing a street in New York in 2021, prompting Carol to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Although reports surfaced in May that the case had been settled following an agreement reached in March, newly obtained court documents shared by Complex have now revealed the previously undisclosed settlement amount.
According to the report, Carol Maraj is set to receive a $400,000 settlement. Nassau County Supreme Court records state that both sides agreed to the six figure amount in order to resolve the claims against Polevich. However, the agreement is still awaiting final approval from a judge before it can officially take effect.
Court documents show that $300,000 of the settlement will come from Polevich's personal assets, while Allstate Insurance will provide the remaining $100,000. Carol Maraj's attorneys are currently waiting for the court to approve the mediation assisted agreement. The legal team, Napoli Shkolnik PLLC, is seeking $133,333.32 in attorney's fees along with $9,744.38 in litigation costs. Once judicial approval is granted, the remaining balance of approximately $234,337.51 will be distributed to Robert Maraj's estate. The filings also note that there are no outstanding Medicaid or estate liens connected to the settlement.

Charles Polevich fled the scene after the fatal collision in 2021 and was later convicted, receiving a one year prison sentence for Robert Maraj's death. The lawsuit previously gained additional attention after Polevich's legal team sought to question Nicki Minaj about her relationship with her father. With the settlement now in place, it appears that further testimony may no longer be necessary.
"I can’t really bring myself to discuss the passing of my father as yet; I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life," Nicki Minaj wrote in an open letter in 2021. "I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone. Life is funny that way. May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed." Whether there will be any additional developments in the case remains to be seen.
