Sabrina Carpenter talks about men with humor: Theyre a really fun species to watch

Sabrina Carpenter may have an album called Man’s Best Friend, but that doesn’t mean she fully understands men.

In a new Vogue Italia cover story published Tuesday (Sept. 23), the pop star spoke candidly about her mixed feelings toward the opposite sex. “I think they’re a really fun species to watch,” Carpenter said. “In both a good and bad way.”

The Grammy winner explained that her experiences with men have been both uplifting and frustrating. “I feel really adored, inspired and loved by some of them,” she told the magazine. “And really confused, attacked and ridiculed by others.”

Carpenter added that she feels hopeful when her friends share that they’re having boys. “When one of my friends announces she’s having a son, I rejoice for that child,” she said. “Because I know he’ll be raised right.”

For more of Carpenter’s thoughts on men, fans can turn to Man’s Best Friend, which came out in August and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. On the Hot 100-topping lead single “Manchild,” she calls out the immaturity of some of her partners, while on “Tears,” she cheekily celebrates how attractive it can be when a love interest puts in the bare minimum effort.

She has also reflected on the heartbreak that fueled much of the record. Speaking to Zane Lowe earlier in September, Carpenter said, “I think I came out of a sad situation a lot less bitter than I intended or expected to, with a little bit more of the, like, ‘You know what? There’s two people involved, and this is part of growing up.’ I don’t want to be enemies with people that I loved … I feel like it is one of those situations where, even the album starting with, ‘Oh, boy’ was sort of an eye roll to yourself being like, ‘Here we go again.’”

The Vogue Italia conversation arrives as Carpenter prepares for some major career milestones. The Girl Meets World alum recently announced that she will soon make her Grand Ole Opry debut and host Saturday Night Live for the first time. She’s also set to headline Coachella in 2026.

Carpenter also took time to reflect on the bond she’s built with her fans as her career has grown. “The most important thing in the last 10 years of my life has been the people who have brought me to where I am now, the fans who have stuck by me through every moment, the good ones and the bad ones, with the songs they loved and didn’t love,” she said. “We’re really growing together.”
