The Weeknds Die For You Leads THRs Top TV Songs Chart For August

HBO’s Insecure dominates THR’s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind and Shazam, for August, as five songs from the show debut in the top 10.

Rankings for the Top TV Songs chart are based on song and show data provided by Tunefind and ranked using a formula blending respective Shazam tags, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music during the corresponding period.

The Weeknd’s “Die For You” leads the way at No. 1 after appearing in the fourth episode of Insecure’s second season on Aug. 13. The track leads all songs with 40,000 Shazam tags, 5,000 downloads sold and 6.6 million streams in August, according to Nielsen Music.

The song was, briefly, a hit on Billboard’s charts after its release on Starboy in December. The track debuted and peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 19 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts dated Dec. 17.

Among the other songs from Insecure to debut on the Top TV Songs chart for August, Jazmine Sullivan and Bryson Tiller’s “Insecure” opens at No. 2, Roman GianArthur’s “Real Love, No Shade” arrives at No. 5, Rico Nasty’s “Poppin” hits No. 6 and Nick Hakim’s “Needy Bees” debuts at No. 8.

Elsewhere on the chart, three tracks featured in the Netflix original series Atypical crack the top 10. Alt-J’s “Tessellate” arrives the highest at No. 7, while Glass Animals’ “Black Mambo” and Santigold’s “Disparate Youth” lands at 9-10. Thanks to its appearance, “Tessellate” logs 12,000 Shazam tags, 1,000 downloads sold and 1.4 million streams in August, according to Nielsen Music.

The three songs from Atypical appear on the show’s first season, which was released in its entirety on Aug. 11.
