Odesza scores its second No. 1 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart (dated Sept. 30), debuting at the top with A Moment Apart. The album, which also begins at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, earned 63,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 14, according to Nielsen Music. Of those, 52,000 stemmed from traditional sales, sparking the set's No. 1 debut on Dance/Electronic Album Sales.
It's easily the best sales week ever for Odesza, the duo of Harrison Mills (aka CatacombKid) and Clayton Knight (aka BeachesBeaches), whose previous high came nearly exactly three years ago, when debut set In Return started at No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums with 6,000 copies sold. (Moment benefitted from a concert/ticket album bundle sale redemption promotion for the act's world tour, set to begin with a sold out date on Sept. 29 in London and continuing through Feb. 11 in Fremantle, Australia.)
Plus, Odesza places eight tracks on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, led by "Higher Ground," featuring Naomi Wild (46-25). The song earns the top gains in digital song sales and streaming, up 316 percent to 1,000 downloads sold and 192 percent to 1.5 million U.S. streams.
'NIGHT' MOVES: Dutch DJ Hardwell and singer Austin Mahone hit the summit on Dance Club Songs for the first and second time, respectively, with "Creatures of the Night" (2-1). Mahone first led with "Lady," featuring Pitbull, in June. "Creatures" was remixed by Charming Horses, Madison Mars and Luca Testa, among others.
'LOOK,' A NEW TOP 10: Taylor Swift shuffles into the Dance/Mix Show Airplaytop 10 with "Look What You Made Me Do" (13-9). The first single from Reputation(due Nov. 10) is Swift's second top 10 this year, following her track with Zayn, "I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)," which reached No. 3 in March. Swift scores her seventh total top 10; she's earned one No. 1, "Wildest Dreams," in 2015.
Also on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Portugal. The Man makes a monster move, soaring 26-10 with "Feel It Still." It's the first top 10 (and chart entry) for the Alaskan alt act. "Feel" was remixed by Ofenbach, Jay Mac and Zhu, among others. (The Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart measures radio airplay on a select group of full-time dance stations, along with plays during mix shows on more than 80 top 40-formatted reporters.)
