Ed Sheerans Shape of You Surpasses Drake as Spotifys Most-Streamed Song Ever

Drake's lengthy reign as track king of Spotify has come to an end. "Shape of You," by the usurper Ed Sheeran, has overtaken Drake's "One Dance" as the service's most-streamed track ever. According to newly updated totals, "Shape of You" has over 1,318,420,396 streams compared to "One Dance" and its 1,317,143,742 plays.

The Canadian rapper had held the "most-streamed song" title since Oct. 18, 2016, when "Dance" surpassed previous champ "Lean On," by  Major Lazer, featuring MØ and DJ Snake. The Views track reached the one billion milestone in mid-December and has steadily climbed since. Drake's second-most streamed song on Spotify is "Too Good," with nearly 600 million listens.

For Sheeran, it's yet another record for the books, and further proof that he's Spotify's MVP at the moment. "Shape of You" had already set the milestone for best one-day stream totals, at 10 million back on March 3. That day, Sheeran also shattered the record for first-day streams for his album, Divide, with 56,727,861 streams.

Sheeran is also the most streamed artist in terms of monthly listeners, with 40,095,920, and he's currently the service's second most streamed artist of all time, with over 10 billion, behind Drake, naturally.

According to Spotify, Sheeran is most popular in Mexico City, where he has 850 million monthly listeners. Santiago, Chile is next with 748 million and Sao Paulo, Brazil is third with 644 million listeners.

On Friday, Sheeran released the lyric video for "Perfect," the official fourth single off Divide.
