Camila Cabello & Sam Smith Battle For U.K. Singles Chart Supremacy

Wolf Alice is fighting tooth and claw for the U.K. albums chart title while Camila Cabello is closing in on her first singles crown.

Hailing from North London, Wolf Alice snags a narrow lead at the halfway point of the chart cycle with their second set Visions Of A Life (Dirty Hit), which could become their first chart-leader this Friday (their 2015 debut, My Love Is Cool, peaked at No. 2).

But there’s a strong contender in Shania Twain, whose comeback album Now (EMI) is just over 1,000 combined sales behind, according to the Official Charts Company, and could still snatch the lead. Now is the Canadian singer’s first record in 15 years, since 2002's Up, which peaked at No. 4.

Three more new LPs fill up the top five on the Official Albums Chart Update asDavid Gilmour's Live At Pompeii (Columbia) starts at No. 3, Michael Jackson’sposthumous Scream (Sony Music CG) release is at No.  4 and Demi Lovato'ssixth album Tell Me You Love Me (Hollywood) drops in at No. 5, for what could be her personal best.

In a big week for new releases, Miley Cyrus' sixth album Younger Now (RCA) debuts at No. 8, homegrown rockers’ Feeder starts at No. 9 with their Best Of(BMG) compilation, veteran singer-songwriter Chris Rea's Road Songs For Lovers (BMG) begins at No. 10 while, just outside the top 10 are fresh sets fromABBA’s Benny Andersson, Manchester duo Hurts and the late, great David Bowie.

On the midweek singles chart, former Fifth Harmony singer Camila Cabello (Epic/Syco) is rising fast with “Havana” featuring Young Thug. The Cuban-born pop singer’s single rises 4-2 in its eighth week on the survey and sits just 1,500 combined sales behind Sam Smith's “Too Good at Goodbyes” (EMI). Smith’s own comeback song has now logged three weeks at the summit, a career best.

The rest of the top five is static with Post Malone and 21 Savage's international hit “Rockstar” (Republic) at No. 3, Pink's “What About Us” (RCA) at No. 4, and CNCO Little Mix hold at their peak spot with the remix of "Reggaeton Lento” (Syco Music) at No. 5.

Also noteworthy is Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” (KSR), the current Hot 100 leader which leaps 37-26 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart Update.
