U2 Is the Best With Record-Breaking 13th No. 1 on Adult Alternative Songs Chart

U2 hits historic heights with "You're the Best Thing About Me, " which rises 2-1 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart (dated Oct. 21).

"Best" marks U2's 13th No. 1 on the chart, which began in 1996, breaking the band out of a tie with Coldplay for the most No. 1s in the list's history. U2 claims sole possession of the distinction after Coldplay tied the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers with "Adventure of a Lifetime" in December 2015.

"Best Thing" previously became U2's record-extending 25th top 10 on the chart.

Here's an updated look at the acts with the most Adult Alternative Songs No. 1s:

13, U2
12, Coldplay
11, Dave Matthews Band (including two solo Matthews No. 1s)
9, Jack Johnson
7, Sheryl Crow
7, Counting Crows
7, R.E.M.

"Best Thing" additionally bullets at No. 23 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart, where it's U2's record-extending 42nd entry, and No. 19 on the all-rock genre Rock Airplay chart with 4 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music. It's also crossing over, jumping 25-21 on Adult Pop Songs, where it could become U2's first top 20 hit since 2005, when "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" reached No. 15.

The track re-enters the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart at No. 8 (4,000 sold) with a 93 boost in sales, helped by the release of its official video, as well as an acoustic version.

"Best Thing" is the lead single from U2's 14th studio album, Songs of Experience, due Dec. 1.
