Kenny Chesney Brings Powerful ‘Knowing You’ to the 2021 ACM Awards

Country legend Kenny Chesney brought an understated charm to the 2021 ACM Awards on Sunday night (Apr. 18), opting to forgo his stadium rockers for the subtle romance of “Knowing You,” which led directly into an In Memoriam segment during the Nashville-based telecast.

With smoke emanating from the stage and a six-piece band backing him, Chesney donned his black cowboy hat and crooned in front of clips meant to evoke passionate memories. The performance of “Knowing You,” a highlight of Chesney’s 2020 studio album Here and Now, was followed by a short montage of country legends who had recently passed away, highlighted by the legendary Charley Pride as the screen faded to a commercial.

From 2004 to 2008, Chesney won five straight entertainer of the year trophies at the ACMs. During the 2021 ceremony, he was given two performance slots: one solo, and another alongside Kelsea Ballerini.

The ACM Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by MRC. MRC and Penske Media are co-parent companies of Billboard.
