Music Matters Taps Industry Veterans for Newly Created Board of Advisers

Music Matters, a student-run nonprofit at the University of Michigan that hosts SpringFest, which bills itself as "the first and largest social impact lifestyle festival in the U.S.," has formed a board of advisers with nine appointments.

The group said it is establishing the board to "aid in the continued, rapid growth of the festival — providing strategic counsel and support across programming, talent, brand partnerships and social venture incubation." Music Matters partnered with Universal Music Group on SpringFest 2017 in April.

The board of advisers will include: Gary Gersh, global president of talent at AEG Presents; Scott Heydt, CEO of HeydtAir and former chief financial officer of VaynerMedia; Sherrie Schwartz, chief human resources officer at CAA; Mike Muse, Barack Obama's "My Brother's Keeper" Millennial Entrepreneur champion and co-host of Sway in the Morning on Sirius XM and ABC's Real Live; Jason Schulweis, vp at MediaLink and formerly vp Marketing Solutions at Live Nation; Peggy Burns, senior vp philanthropy at the Henry Ford Health System; Phil Deloria, Carroll Smith-Rosenberg Collegiate Professor of American Culture and History at the University of Michigan; Dave Bartlebaugh, vp at Aerial Productions; and Phillip Schermer, founder of Music Matters and associate in the Office of the Vice Chairman at BlackRock.

"We could not be more excited to add such an impressive, passionate group of leaders across entertainment, business, advertising, politics and education to the Music Matters board of advisers," Schermer said in a statement. "SpringFest represents the next generation of festivals — one that reflects the millennial mindset: lifestyle in its programming, dynamic in its experience, technology-fueled and designed to advance the social good — so it is critical that we bring in industry experts to help us continue to scale."

Added Matthew Ladis, president of Music Matters: "As we look to SpringFest 2018 in April -- which will be the most dynamic festival yet -- we are thrilled to have this celebrated group of experts in the trenches with us."
