How Logic & Chris Stapletons Albums Sold Across the U.S.: A Region-by-Region Breakdown

It’s a busy week at the top of the May 27-dated Billboard 200 chart, as Logic’s Everybody and Chris Stapleton’s From A Room: Volume 1 debut at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, with robust bows. Everybody — Logic’s third studio set — launches on the tally with 247,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 11, according to Nielsen Music, while From A Room — Stapleton’s sophomore effort — starts with 219,000. It's the first time in 2017 that two albums earned more than 200,000 units in the same week.

Further, both Logic and Stapleton score career-high sales weeks with their sets: From A Room sold 202,000 copies (and starts atop the Top Album Sales chart) while Everybody moved 196,000.

Country singer/songwriter Stapleton saw 52 percent of his first-week sales (106,000) come from the South Central and South Atlantic regions of the U.S. (See map, below.) Conversely, rapper Logic saw 27 percent of his first week sales (54,000) come from those two areas. Moving to the Pacific and Middle Atlantic regions (home to California and New York, among other states), Logic sold 39 percent of Everybody there (77,000), while Stapleton shifted just 17 percent of From A Room in those areas (34,000).

That kind of geographic breakdown isn’t terribly surprising – Stapleton’s debut album, Traveller, saw 51 percent of its total sales flow through the South Central and South Atlantic regions (987,000 of 1.93 million) – and just 17 percent in the Pacific and Middle Atlantic (324,000). And Logic’s last studio release, The Incredible True Story, has sold 35 percent of its total sum (93,000 of 265,000) in the Pacific and Middle Atlantic, with another 30 percent (79,000) in the South Central and South Atlantic.

While there is a geographic divide between Everybody and From A Room, there are areas where the two albums sold about the same. In Houston, for example, both titles sold about 4,000 copies (unlike, say, Los Angeles, where Everybody moved 14,000 while From A Room did just 5,000; or Nashville, where Everybody did only 1,000 while From a Room was a blockbuster with 7,000). Other cities where the two albums sold close to equally: Minneapolis, Boston and Dallas.
