Universal Music Publishing Group Promotes JW Beekman to CFO

Universal Music Publishing Group has promoted JW Beekman to the role of Chief Financial Officer at the worldwide publishing giant, effective immediately. Beekman takes over for Michael Sammis, who recently ascended to president of Universal Publishing Production Music.

Beekman joined UMPG ten years ago and was most recently the senior vp of North American finance. As CFO of the entire company, Beekman will now oversee all financial activities worldwide, plus the global technology group. He'll continue to be based out of UMPG's Santa Monica headquarters.

"JW brings deep expertise in finance, administration, and licensing, combined with more than a decade of being a key member of our executive team," said UMPG chairman and CEO Jody Gerson. "All of this makes him the ideal executive to lead our financial operation globally as we seek to accelerate our growth and further UMPG’s reputation as the industry’s best home for songwriters."

Beekman added that he believes the music publishing sector is "ripe" for growth. "UMPG continues to create industry-leading models for our business, and I’ve been fortunate to be a part of the team on this inspiring journey," he said.

The VU Amsterdam grad previously held roles at BMG Music Publishing and PricewaterhousCoopers.
