KatyCats, stand to attention: Katy Perry is coming to Australia.
Just days after dropping a big hint on Australian radio, the U.S. pop singer confirmed her Witness: The Tour will return Down Under next July and August for seven dates in support of her new album.
The Australian leg of her global trek will kick off at Perth Arena on July 24 and will play dates in Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and wraps with Aug. 14 with the second of two shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.
Perry was in Australia to deliver the news first-hand. She signed autographs, posed for snaps and roared down the red carpet Friday (June 30) at Sydney’s Myer, the nation’s biggest department store which is on board as the principle and naming rights partner for the national Witness jaunt (she also promised to binge on meat pies during her short visit).
Paul Dainty promoted Perry’s last tour Down Under, her 23-date Prismatic arena trek of 2014 which shifted some 350,000 tickets and was one of the biggest live events of the year. At the time, Dainty said her fans would have “easily” snapped-up tickets for another twelve dates, or more. Dainty, now president and CEO of TEG DAINTY, is also behind Perry’s 2018 visit. “The response we received from the 2014 tour was phenomenal with Katy performing a staggering 23 shows across the country,” he comments in a statement announcing the concerts. “Katy is one of the most powerful entertainers in the world and I am delighted to be promoting her 2018 Australian tour.”
The general public on sale starts July 19.
In Australia, Perry has landed four No. 1 singles, and two of her four albums have hit the top (Prism and Teenage Dream). Witness just missed out on the ARIA Albums Chart summit, peaking at No. 2 on its release.
