Manchester Arena Is Working Extremely Hard to Reopen in September

Renovation work is underway at Manchester Arena following a bombing there in the May following an Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 and seriously injured dozens more. In a statement issued via social media on Thursday (July 6), the venue said they are "working extremely hard" to hit its target reopening date of early September.

"We will continue to keep you informed as much as possible on our official re-opening date and up and coming show information. We still have some great events to announce for 2017 and of course 2018," the statement continued.

The May 22 terrorist attack took place in the 21,000-capacity venue's main public foyer at 10:30 local time and has been closed since, leading to the cancelation of scheduled shows by Kings Leon, WWE, Kiss and others.

Last month, the venue operator SMG issued a statement setting a September reopening date, saying they had hoped to honor its existing summer events but the damage caused by the blast was too serious. A number of summer concerts have been rescheduled for other venues.

"We also want to express our thanks to all those who have contacted us with their kind wishes and support," the statement on Thursday continued. "Our ongoing thoughts and prayers still remain with all those affected by the atrocity that happened."
