Before Ricky Martin joined Carlos Vives onstage Thursday night for the TV performance debut of their optimistic collaboration “Canción Bonita,” he chatted with Billboard on the red carpet.
“It’s called ‘Pretty Song’ and the title speaks for itself,” Martin tells Billboard. “I mean, with everything that we’re dealing with at the moment, I think this is what we needed to release. He’s someone that I love and he’s my friend for many, many years,” he adds of Vives.
“I’m happy to be here, celebrating music once again and I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Beautiful things are happening,” a hopeful Martin expresses.
As for how he’s coping with the pandemic, the Puerto Rican artist says family and mental health come first.
“I just focus on my kids and my family, obviously my parents,” he says. “For me, that’s the important thing. Everyone’s healthy and yes, we gotta talk about mental health. I think it’s something people are so afraid to talk about, and you know, I dealt with a little bit of anxiety and it felt very overwhelming. So I’m happy to say that we’re doing great today.”
